The Needles Park Access Statement

The Needles complies with the DDA Act (Disability Discrimination Act) and as such, will endeavour to accommodate all our guests. However, certain rides at The Needles can be physically demanding.  We therefore reserve the right to decline access to those who we feel may be at risk.

This Guide has been designed to assist our Guests with disabilities to ensure that you have a safe and fun packed day out.

We want all our Guests to get the most out of the park and enjoy as many of our rides and attractions as possible.

This guide has been produced to give you a realistic picture of our rides and attractions, detailing access issues, ride restrictions, and the requirements for Helpers to accompany Guests.

Hopefully this, along with general ride restrictions detailed on signage at the rides, will enable you to assess your own abilities and make an informed decision about which rides and attractions you are able to, or wish to use.

All staff at The Needles Park are trained to assist all customers with their requests whilst on site.

All public areas of the site (except the rides & beach) are accessible to wheelchair using customers. However, the physical nature of the site results in some steep slopes which may need to be negotiated with care.

There are 10 designated parking bays clearly marked next to the site main entrance, available to disabled badge holders only. For those customers arriving via coach the coach drivers are permitted to load and unload all passengers on the main roundabout at the entrance.

There are two disabled toilets/baby changing rooms on site, one next to Marconi’s bar and the other situated next to the Carousel.

There are printed copies and large print copies of the glass studio and sweet manufacturing demonstrations available upon request.

All ride signage is both written and in pictorial form.

The Needles Park Ride Inventory (Access)

1. The Chairlift is an open two-seater continually moving ride and therefore not suitable for wheelchair users and some other physically disabled customers. Persons with the following medical conditions are advised not to ride on the chairlift:

Motion sickness
Heart Condition
Epilepsy
Neck/Back disorders
Fear of heights

Persons with visual impairments and other disabilities may use the chairlift if accompanied by an able bodied helper. Please enquire at the chairlift for accessibility. When using the chairlift please notify the staff of any disability or ailment which might affect your ability to get on and off the ride safely and we ask that you observe the following instructions:

* Listen to the instruction given by the attendant.

* Look behind you and sit straight down with your arms in and head back.

* When the attendant has lowered the safety bar place your feet on the foot rest and hold on.

2. The Carousel is a traditional single horse roundabout and there is an element of climbing involved to alight and disembark. It is therefore not suitable for wheelchair users and some other physically disabled customers; however customers with other disabilities are able to ride the carousel if accompanied by an able bodied helper. Please enquire at the Carousel.  When riding the Carousel please make sure you sit still and hold on tight.
   
   

3. The Junior Driver is a juvenile ride for 4 to 11 year olds of one metre and over in height, consisting of individually driven cars. The driver of the car must be able to steer and control the foot pedals. There is an element of climbing involved to alight and disembark; therefore it is not suitable for wheelchair users and some other physically disabled customers; however customers with other disabilities are able to ride the Junior Driver. Please enquire at the Junior Driver. When riding the Junior Driver please ensure that you remain seated, are strapped in and keep your hands and feet within the car at all times.
   
   

4. The Pirate Ship is a moving swing boat ride. Access to the boat is via a flight of steps and involves climbing into the boat; therefore it is not suitable for wheelchair bound and some other physically disabled customers; however customers with other disabilities are able to ride the Pirate Ship if accompanied by an able bodied helper. Please enquire at the Pirate Ship. When riding the Pirate Ship it is necessary to remain seated and strapped in at all times. Whilst the ride is in motion you are advised to hold on tight.
   

5. The Tea Cup Ride is a moving spinning ride.  Access to each cup is via a few steps and involves stepping into the cup; therefore it is not suitable for wheelchair users and some other physically disabled customers; however customers with other disabilities are able to ride the Tea Cup Ride. Please enquire at the ride. We advise that customers with the following medical conditions do not ride the Tea Cup Ride: Motion sickness
   

6. The Jurassic Golf is an adventure golf set in and around a wooded area on uneven ground and therefore is inaccessible to wheelchair bound and some other physically disabled customers; however customers with other disabilities are able to enjoy the Jurassic Golf. Please enquire at the Jurassic Golf. We ask that all customers refrain from throwing the golf balls and do not swing your golf club around.
