The nation’s love of sweets is nothing new. In fact, we have been enjoying delicious confectionery for centuries, but this reached new heights during Victorian times. Indeed, the Victorian era is famous for being a time when science and technology really took off and with this came lots of new sweets.
During the nineteenth century many new sweets were invented and some of today’s favourite sweets, such as candy floss, liquorice allsorts, jelly babies, wine gums and marshmallows, were created during the 1800’s. In fact, It is a testament to how great these sweets are that they have survived today with relatively few changes and, although production methods and packaging have evolved over time, the genuine quality and taste of Victorian sweets hasn’t really changed because it hasn’t needed to.
In recent years, Victorian sweets have gained popularity, from the traditional flavours and packaging to the old Victorian style sweet shop.
