The nation’s love of sweets is nothing new. In fact, we have been enjoying delicious confectionary for centuries. During the Victorian era, famous for its advancements in science and technology, it reached new heights and with it, lots of new sweets!
During the 19th century many new sweets were invented including some of today’s much-loved favourites such as candy floss, liquorice allsorts, jelly babies, wine gums and marshmallows. It is testament to how great these classic sweets are that to this day they have remained relatively unchanged.
In recent years Victorian sweets have gained popularity; from the flavours and packaging to the nostalgia of the traditional sweet shop, we can’t seem to get enough of these vintage treats. A vast array of these old favourites, including Rhubarb & Custard, Strawberries & Cream, Mint humbugs and Pear Drops can be found in our Isle of Wight Sweet Shop.
